WATCH: Hero dog saves another dog from drowning
When dog owners leave their pets at home alone, there is always risk of coming home to food on the ground or something unexpectedly broken.
However, when one couple recently came home to find their dogs soaking wet they knew something strange had occurred while they were gone.
After checking their home security camera, the couple found that one of their dogs was a hero and saved their other pup after it fell in their swimming pool.
"We tried to look for clues as to where he could have wet his head," the dog owner, Byron Thanarayen, told Southwest News Service (SWNS), according to Fox News. "We thought maybe he dipped his head in the water, but there was no mess in the house to support this suggestion."
In the video that has since gone viral, the larger dog, Jessie, works to pull the smaller dog, Chucky, to safety after it fell into the pool.
“It was heart-wrenching to watch. We still struggle to watch that video today, just thinking of what could have happened if Jessie was not there,” added Thanarayen. The incident occurred at the couple’s home in South Africa.
According to the outlet, it took the dog 34 minutes to save the other from drowning. The wet fur kept causing the animal to slip, but eventually the large dog was able to save its companion.
The family has since installed a fence around the pool, so their hero dog can take a break.
